Welcome to the Shadow Legion!

This is the Household of Duke Sir Kane Redfeather and Duchess Ilissa the Nightwatcher. This is a House built on Service: to the SCA, the Kingdom, the Crown, and to the education and betterment of our members. We were built on a few experienced members joining together to help newcomers to the SCA with the knowledge they need to acquire in order to function in the Current Middle Ages. We welcome newcomers and old hands alike! We emphasize learning for yourself. We strive to teach, rather than "do", knowing that if you are taught to do FOR yourselves, you can do BY yourselves!

We are a medieval family-- a BIG one! We are as close a family as you can get without being related! The elders of the Pack have the experience, political savvy, and knowledge that the SCA has, plus the camping and fighting skills needed to play in the SCA. Also, some of our members have no real families, and so are happy to become our "kids". Good done to one of us is good done to us all; bad done to one of us gets the whole pack up behind you. We take it personally, either way- all 750 of us! We stand together! If you have a need, a problem or just need a shoulder, we are ALL here for you. You will be surprised at how many of the Legion can be there for you at any time.

"Poppa" Kane and "MOM" Ilissa are here for you, no matter what. Your problems will be ours if you need us. We offer opinions and advice (take them or leave them), we will search out answers and info, but if you need a quiet private talk, it will not be shared.

In our camp or away from the normal crowds, you may address us in the informal: Poppa, Kane, MOM or Ilissa. By the way, "MOM" stands for "Mother Of Many"; we have a lot of "kids"!. We allow the informal names only when we, the Legion, are alone-- NOT in front of the Peerages or Royalty. In the presence of others we ask that you call us Duke and Duchess, or Your Grace.

We camp together, work together, travel together, learn together, fight together, and party together! Yes, we are almost as well known for our parties as we are for our fighting team. The Legion is known in every Kingdom for our prowess in War. We are certainly known for the parties we put on! We have artisans, musicians, dancers, light and heavy fighters, cooks, brewers, butchers, bakers, candlestick makers and more! We are proud of handling any situation that is thrown at us. Together, we are AWESOME!!!

We expect our members to contribute to the Pack. Parties and camps take money and labor; your contributions are expected. We understand those whose funds are limited; we've been there, too. We happily accept money, sweat and donations of utensils, food, drink, etc. Clean camp, fill torches, cook food, buy meat, prepare a dish, wash the pots- whatever! We love to cook out in our camp at events! We do mundane things together, too, and any Legionnaire is welcome at these gatherings.

Should the time come when you feel the need to go your separate way, know that the Legion is always here for you. If you find yourself alone at an event, or adrift again, the Legion will always welcome you.
